Nominating Process and Timeline

The major steps in PEAK Grantmaking’s nominating process are:

Step 1: Identification of Candidates

Members may nominate themselves or a colleague between August 23, 2018 and September 14, 2018

Step 2: Vetting the Candidates

The Nominating Committee will review all potential candidates and identify the candidates who, on paper, best meet PEAK Grantmaking’s board qualifications and recruitment priorities.

These candidates will be interviewed by member(s) of the Nominating Committee.

Step 3: Developing the Final Slate

The Nominating Committee will meet to review the interview results and develop a slate for consideration by the Governance Committee.

The Nominating Committee may also recommend candidates who could be engaged with PEAK Grantmaking board committees as a “pipeline” for future board nominees.

All candidates will be notified of their nomination status in early December 2018.

Step 4: Approval

The Governance Committee will review the Nominating Committee’s recommendations and will decide on the final slate to present to the full Board for consideration in December 2018. Upon approval of the slate by the Board, all candidates will be notified of their status by December 31, 2018. The slate of candidates will be shared with the membership in early 2019 as part of the Annual Membership Meeting agenda and materials.

Step 5: Orientation

Nominees will participate in a series of three calls to introduce them to PEAK Grantmaking board responsibilities, strategic plan, and financial position. The nominees also will be invited to participate in PEAK Grantmaking’s March board meeting held in advance of our annual conference as part of that orientation.

Step 6:  Election

The PEAK Grantmaking membership will vote individually for each board candidate in March/April 2019 as part of the Annual Meeting of the Membership. Election results will be shared within 24 hours of the close of voting with the candidates and the entire membership.

Step 7:  Terms Begin

Board members-elect will work with staff and the board co-chairs to create individual plans for their terms that match their time and talent to PEAK Grantmaking’s needs, including committee assignments. Terms begin at the first board meeting after the election which will be in June 2019.
