Networking: Making It Stick

Don’t spend time building a network just to let it languish. Keep it going.

  • One crucial step to keeping your network alive: follow up. Send thank-you notes. If you read an article of interest to someone in your network, email it to them. If you’re on Twitter, follow others in your network. Reply to their tweets and retweet relevant information and links to good reads.
  • Attend networking events and meetings of professional organizations to which you belong.
  • Practice your elevator pitch. (The 60-second story of who you are, what you do, and why you’re good at it.)
