New Legal Training on Working with Government Officials

Hi, it’s Maya from Learn Foundation Law with important news!

I’m excited to announce that our Working with Government Officials training course is now available to help private foundation staff (like me) navigate the rules related to interacting with government officials.

Join me as I learn about the IRS tax rules and various ethics rules that prevent government officials from accepting inappropriate gifts or benefits from private parties, including foundations. We’ll walk through real-life scenarios that involve government officials—such as invitations to foundation conferences or meetings, and employment issues related to hiring former government officials—to help me and other private foundation staff comply with the law. I should also mention that the course contains valuable resources, including a checklist of questions to consider before working with government officials and summaries of the rules that I plan to keep handy as a reference.

Thanks go out to my friends at the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the David and Lucile Packard Foundation and the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation who created this free online course and others in the Learn Foundation Law series. Check out all the trainings, and a supplemental toolkit to promote them within your foundation, by going to www.learnfoundationlaw.org.
