The Gates Foundation’s Education Plans Go International (Stephen Sawchuk, Education Week) The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has announced a $68 million commitment to expand its education grantmaking abroad.

Arnold Foundation to Build $50M Philanthropic Research Fund to Study Gun Violence (Ruth McCambridge, NPQ) Laura Arnold of the Laura and John Arnold Foundation announced at a Forbes Forum on philanthropy that the foundation plans to build a $50 million fund to support gun violence research. The foundation itself will invest the first $20 million for the project, which will be called the National Collaborative on Gun Violence Research.

While many discussions have been had regarding pressing issues and concerns facing the sector today, at least some eyes are looking ahead to 2020 — but not for the reason some might think.
