You Won’t Know Until You Try: Lessons in embracing and testing new ideas

Organization Members Only

Contributing to a more just and equitable nonprofit sector requires foundations to be open to trying new things. How can we practice responsive and adaptive grantmaking, embrace learning, and work toward systemic equity if we are not ready to challenge ourselves to explore new ideas and approaches? Yet, in philanthropy, innovation and experimentation are typically addressed with extreme caution and deliberation. In this session, we will explore how two foundations tested new ideas, how they engaged and supported their staff and grantees along the way, and what they learned by embracing innovation.
