PEAK Intermediaries Affinity Group Meeting
In this session, you’ll gain insight and appreciation for the role that intermediaries have in the philanthropic sector through the lens of a movement-focused philanthropic support organization (PSO). PSOs play a unique and multi-faceted role in the philanthropic sector.
Since their inception in the late 1940s, PSOs have evolved to wear many hats – as convenors, network leaders, capacity builders, advocates, and political homes—much like grantmaking intermediaries. But what does the philanthropic sector – and the larger social justice ecosystem – need from intermediaries now? Given the current dynamic political, social, economic and cultural context, what is the greatest value add intermediaries can offer? And, given the volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous environment in which we do our work, what individual and collective practices can you and your organization implement to ensure not only your impact but your thriving as well? Marissa Tirona, President of Grantmakers Concerned with Immigrants and Refugees (GCIR), will offer her reflections and observations on these questions and share the story of how GCIR has evolved from a philanthropic supporting organization to a philanthropic mobilizing organization and how that has shifted GCIR’s practices and stance.
