Reframing Risk in Grantmaking Practices (PEAK NorCal & PEAK SoCal)

PEAK’s Steward Responsively Principle calls grants management professionals to manage all entrusted resources—people, finances, reputation, time—with care to balance stewardship with an agile approach to risk. In this workshop led by Ascendium Education Group Director of Grants Management Nikki Wachter, participants will learn the importance of reframing risk and recalibrating vetting processes to make grantmaking more transparent, trust-based, and nonprofit- and community-centered. Participants will better understand their organization’s tolerance for risk and develop strategies for improving nonprofit vetting practices.

During this workshop, participants will:

• understand the relationship between their organization’s risk profile and its values;
• learn how their application and reporting processes can better support adaptability and sustainability for grantees; and
• gain insights on how to better align their internal vetting processes with their desired risk profile.
