A Statement from the PEAK Grantmaking Board Co-Chairs
Recent years have shown both the potential and the imperative for more responsive, equitable philanthropy, which lies at the core of PEAK Grantmaking’s mission. In response, PEAK bet big on our vision, growing our team and creating new programs to deliver even greater value to you, our members. This growth allowed us to expand learning opportunities, influence practices across the field, and deepen our community to over 8,000 people and 550 organizations.
Yet the community we’ve built must be sustainable to be meaningful, and today’s operating environment has prompted us to reassess what that truly requires. As a result, PEAK Grantmaking is entering a period of strategic restructuring, which includes the difficult decision to reduce the size of our staff team.
It is with a heavy heart that we part ways with trusted and respected colleagues. We are grateful for the contributions of every team member affected by this decision, all of whom have shown an unwavering commitment to our mission, principles, and members. While we must chart a path forward and take concrete steps to ensure the future of PEAK, we do not take the decision lightly. Although necessary, staff reductions have been made with the utmost concern for maintaining PEAK’s core functions and continuing to deliver member value.

Our guiding principle in making these decisions was to align our structure and strategy with current economic realities in the most methodical and equitable way we could. As we move forward, we are focusing on what PEAK does best: delivering high-quality programs and events for our members, including our annual convening, all in an effort to transform philanthropy by operationalizing equity-centered, values-driven grantmaking practices.
The board remains confident in PEAK’s mission and in the organization’s ability to carry it forward. We will lead with transparency and keep you informed as this transition unfolds.
We deeply appreciate your continued support and patience as we navigate this process. Your dedication to our mission is vital, and together, we will continue to advance equitable and effective grantmaking.
Sincerely,
Josh Abel and Janet Disla
