Hi, it’s Maya, from Learn Foundation Law with a couple of important announcements!
If you haven’t met me before, please allow me to introduce myself. I’m a program officer in a series of educational courses created by legal staff at the David and Lucille Packard Foundation, the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation to help people, like you and me, learn the legal rules for foundations.
Today, we’re rolling out our first course geared toward grantees on our redesigned website. Titled “Advocacy & Lobbying: Rules for Public Charity Grantees of Private Foundations,” this training is designed to help organizations navigate the rules around advocacy and lobbying and explain how private foundations can fund public policy work. Especially in election years when the public is paying the most attention to issues that affect their communities, this course can help funders and grantees get on the same page about what is legally permissible.
I am joined in this twenty-minute course by the newest member of the Learn Foundation Law family, Alex, an executive director of a public charity. Alex and I work together to learn about what constitutes lobbying under IRS rules and cover other topics such as funding options and maximizing limits.
You can find this course and others in the Learn Foundation Law suite at our newly redesigned website: www.learnfoundationlaw.org. Key features of the site include greater usability on mobile devices, a subscription option, and the ability to offer feedback.
I hope you will share our new course with grantees. Feel free to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org with any feedback about this course or any of our courses.
