Bowie State University Philanthropy Fellow Makayla Peterson (she, her, hers) joined PEAK in July 2023. In her role, Makayla will receive executive training that will prepare her for a successful career in philanthropy and nonprofit organizations. Makayla takes a special interest in assessing programs designed to address the needs of underserved communities. During her 12-month fellowship, Makayla will bring her passion and drive to uphold the five Principles of Peak Grantmaking. Before working with PEAK, Makayla was a full-time graduate student at Bowie State University where she earned her bachelor’s degree in criminal justice with a concentration in social justice and an master’s of public administration degree in public policy. Makayla is a Delaware native who relocated to the Washington metropolitan area in the summer of 2017. In her free time, Makayla enjoys working out, volunteering, spending time with family, and enjoying brunch with friends.
