Annual Convening
From Demographic Data to Equity in Action
Organization Members Only
Many grantmakers have committed to championing equity—especially by supporting BIPOC-led nonprofits. However, it can be hard to find demographic data and even harder to understand how to put it into practice to advance equity. Moreover, duplicate requests for this data can actually increase the burden on nonprofits instead of alleviating their workload. Candid has been collecting demographic data for years and now has information on tens of thousands of nonprofit organizations. It is offering this data to the field freely via flat file, public Tableau dashboard (coming soon), and free API for partners. Early adopters in philanthropy are integrating demographic data directly into grantmaking platforms—saving nonprofits time and accelerating the equitable grantmaking process. In this session, Candid, the Mott Foundation, and Submittable discuss what demographic data is freely available via Candid and how funders can access this information to promote racial equity in their work.
