PEAK Grantmaking

Resources for PEAK Funders

PEAK wants to transform philanthropy. Through deep partnership with our members and friends, we can make this happen.

Yielding is not an option if we want to undo the systemic damage that keeps people from opportunity and abundance. We recognize the power of philanthropy to drive equity, but we must start by transforming philanthropy.

While our membership and programmatic revenue creates a solid foundation for the organization, PEAK needs deeper support to continue our journey to drive equity in philanthropy and become a model next-level nonprofit. Whether through trust-based, multiyear, general operating support or through whatever means are available to your organization, we welcome your investment in PEAK. Supporters at all levels are welcome and appreciated.

Opportunities for prospective supporters

  • Unrestricted general operating support grants: By calling in funder institutions to reimagine how they can more expansively help philanthropy-supporting organizations (PSOs) like PEAK, we aim to be a resource to you, your collective peers, and the sector writ large while also expanding support for our growing membership of dedicated change agents. PEAK’s tent now includes grantmaking professionals across more than 200 titles, from CEOs to people working in their first philanthropic role. Because our issue area is transforming philanthropy, we are not bound by region, demography, or sub-issue areas—and the way we’re funded needs to be different from other nonprofits. As we evolve as an organization, our internal practices must reflect the equitable aspirations we hope our funders practice. Unrestricted funding ensures we have highly competent staff who are paid equitably so that we can effectively deliver programming, resources, and thought leadership which propels philanthropy forward.
  • Sustaining Organization Membership: The Principles for Peak Grantmaking encourage funders to consider going beyond the grant to support nonprofits. By annually contributing funding above and beyond their stated membership dues, Sustaining Organization Members make it possible for PEAK to conduct research and build tools that support this amazing community in advancing equitable, effective grantmaking practices. Any Organization Member or Consultant Member is welcome to become a Sustaining Organization Member by contributing additional support. Some Sustaining Organization Members contribute an additional $2,000 while others give $25,000 in membership contributions. Regardless of their level of giving, these members’ investments speak to the value they see PEAK provides to individuals and our sector. If you believe PEAK has contributed to you or your organization’s equitable practices tool kit, please advocate for your organization to consider supporting us as a sustaining member.
  • Sponsorship: We invite you to demonstrate your commitment to equitable, effective grantmaking and the PEAK community by supporting programming throughout the year, including our annual convening, which is the largest convening of grants professionals in the US. Upcoming opportunities include: Grants Management 101; the 2024 Volunteer Leadership Summit; our mentorship pilot program, which we mount in partnership with PEAK New England; as well as local opportunities to sponsor and host peer network events for our chapters, caucuses, and affinity groups.
  • Capacity-building programmatic grants: PEAK continues to develop and share resources to support funders in implementing equitable, effective grantmaking practices. Investing in the development of these resources ensures we can continue to offer guidance and support to the field. PEAK has been fortunate to have significant investments—particularly via multiyear support—to expand our staff and ensure that our growing community has the resources needed to promote the instrumental role grants management plays within all funding organizations. In addition, we have embedded equity across all our key resources, which will include the following in 2024–25: the 2024 Grants Management Salary Report, our Grants Management 101 learning series, a refresh of our Principles for Peak Grantmaking, an update to Staffing Grants Management, PEAK Grantmaking Journal, and a new resource, Next-Level Practices in Grants Management.
  • Personal contributions and matching gifts: We have launched an online donation portal where individuals can easily make contributions to PEAK. The portal features a wall of our latest donors. We encourage anyone who gives to PEAK Grantmaking to consider making the most of the contribution by requesting a matching gift from your organization or challenging other PEAK members to also make a contribution.
