Embracing the Unknown: Aligning Grantmaking Practices with Strategy, Values, and Culture

In 2022, the Nathan Cummings Foundation implemented a series of grantmaking practices to better align with its strategy, values, and culture as it entered a period of organizational development and strategic planning. This session takes attendees through their journey and addresses tools to operationalize principles of trust-based philanthropy, how to gain buy-in across their organizations, what’s required to achieve success and promote a culture of collective care. This session also provides concrete examples of alleviating the power imbalance between funders and grantees, looks at equitable grantmaking practices that can be applied at various stages of the grantmaking lifecycle, and tools needed to make changes that move their respective organizations closer to equitable grantmaking practices.
