PEAK Grantmaking

The Big Ideas of PEAK2023 in Four Graphics

The four keynotes that were the cornerstones of PEAK2023 focused on building communities of care that empower all people to show up as their full selves and use the power they have to strategically reshape the practice of philanthropy. These graphic recordings distill the wisdom of our guest speakers to help you initiate changemaking conversations at your organization.

For our opening keynote, PEAK2023 Cochair Tanisha Davis moderated a panel featuring Bainum CEO David Daniels and Director of Grants Management Miyesha Perry and Stupski’s Director of Grantmaking Practice Gwyneth Tripp. In the course of their conversation, they took a deep dive into how foundation CEOs see grants management and operations professionals playing central roles in driving equity and strengthening relationships with nonprofits and communities.

Fostering brave spaces where staff members can deepen their racial equity competencies, learn from one another, and engage in uncomfortable conversations that challenge assumptions and biases is key to creating racial equity-driven organizations. In her presentation, Natasha A. Harrison, CEO of CommunityBuild Ventures, provided an introduction to Brave Space Building™. This framework for creating a supportive working environment allows members to show up fully as themselves so they can share experiences authentically, engage more deeply in conversations that center race, and disrupt white supremacy.

To close out PEAK2023, PEAK President and CEO Satonya Fair, FutureGood President Trista Harris, author and entrepreneur Trabian Shorters, and Philanthropic Initiative for Racial Equity (PRE) Founder and Executive Director Lori Villarosa explored a key question: How can foundations shift their practices to ensure their nonprofit partners can thrive by operating with an abundance mindset? By recognizing endless opportunities and plentiful resources, it becomes possible to envision a future much different from today, and their conversation helped attendees to see the role we can each play to make that future a reality.
