Being a Good Relative: Funding Native-led organizations

The Wayfarer Foundation’s journey to support Native-led nonprofits has sought to address the inherent power imbalance between funder and grantee by using a decolonizing framework shared with us by our partners—that of being a good relative. It involves recognizing our shared humanity and that we all exist as part of a network of relationships, that no one is more important than the other. Decolonization, in this sense, means valuing our interconnectedness more than material means or status, and the result has been transformative. This session explores learning from the past year.
