The Power of Reporting: A Pandemic Byproduct

Organization Members Only

At the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Helios Education Foundation board and senior leaders strategized about how it would respond and where it should target resources. Simultaneously, its current grantees were having similar discussions about how to continue their work as well as how to address unplanned impacts. Beginning in March, Helios’s grants management staff scheduled wellness checks and used its dynamic grants management reporting system to connect with its grantee partners, to ask them how they were faring and hear how we could help. Did they have the resources they needed? Were they able to continue their work? How were the participants they were serving being impacted? Through the foundation’s flexible reporting process, it learned about extraordinary examples of innovation, grit, determination, and agility.

Because Helios has more than 100 open grants totaling more than $114 million, it used this information to identify trends, restructure programs, and quickly share new knowledge with Helios staff and other partners. In turn, grantees were able to use funding to pivot swiftly while staying true to their organizations’ missions. In this presentation, you’ll get an in-depth look at Helios’s experiences from the past year and learn about the power of strategic reporting as a learning tool.
